The dates for the annual music events at Temple Newsam have been announced. Opera in the Park will take place on 24 July, with Party in the Park on the 25 July. The free tickets will be up for grabs from the 5 June. Last year acts such as JLS and soprano Natasha Marsh, wowed the crowds.

I went to Opera in the Park as part of a large group.
The experience was on the whole enjoyable although the music played was not up to the standard I have come to expect from this event.
There were two female soloists and two male. The soprano had the type of voice which hurts the ears when high notes were reached.
The best of the soloists was a male baritone (brought in as a last minute replacement) who had a magnificent voice.
The chorus was good but the mix between orchestra and singers was poor with voices being drowned out by the orchestra. I was disappointed at the quality of the sound produced as I am sure this has been much better on other occasions.
The two halves of the concert were very different, the first consisting of mostly unknown opera snippets which were not hummable tunes. The second half of the concert provided a welcome change with recognisable pieces being played and sung. These included excerts from the Merry Widow and Carmen.
