There’s nothing better for getting yourself into gear and recharging those batteries than a good coffee. That shot of caffeine is just the thing to get you going in the morning, to sustain you throughout the day, or to provide you with a treat on a day out. And if you have a coffee you like it to be good. So where are the best coffee shops in Leeds.
Here are some personal favourites.
Café Rouge, The Light
Café Rouge really is painted red, and the decor by itself gives you a warm glow before you’ve even got to the menu. Their latté is superb and is best enjoyed on the pavement cafe area outside with a croissant. You can watch the people come and go, but, being The Light, you are indoors, so no need to worry about la pluie!
Pasta Romagna, Albion Place
This self-proclaimed little corner of Italy in the heart of Leeds is run by Gilda from Salerno, who loves opera music and frequently sings along to its vibrant sounds which reverberate through this parmesan scented cafe. There is always freshly made pizza – and I always have a slice of the mushroom variety when I stop by here for a latté or capuccino. You can sit indoors or al fresco.
The Maths Coffee Bar at Leeds University
Don’t worry if you never got beyond the times tables, you don’t have to be a mathematician to enjoy a caffeine boost in the Maths Coffee Bar. Also known as Dolce Vita, and with the friendliest of staff, they do lovely lattes, cappucinos and a whole range of cookies including irresistably colourful ones with smarties stuck in them. There are plenty of different kinds of sandwiches too, Yorkshire crisps, fruit, and even small boxes of sushi. Find it on level ten of the Stoner Building.
Harvey Nichols Espresso Bar, Victoria Quarter
Here you can sit out at this very sweet and chichi cafe in Leeds Victoria Quarter arcade and enjoy a fine espresso along with a pain au chocolat. Surrounded by utterly exclusive shops, with glorious stained glass above, the ambience here is as enjoyable as the food and drink, dahling.
Pret a Manger, Bond St
This eco-friendly shop does a wonderfully aromatic coffee and a delicious range of sandwiches too. Pret pride themselves on their freshness, and this is another place where you can also get sushi. The standards of freshness apply just as much to the coffee as to the food and Pret coffee is made within two weeks of the beans being roasted, which makes for a very tasty drink indeed.
So there we have it, whether you’re up at the uni or in the heart of the top shopping area, in Leeds you’re never far from a decent coffee.
