Photo of a room at the Jury’s Inn hotel

There’s no doubt that Leeds has become a popular city for short breaks and with the influx of hotels over the last few years, travellers now have a good selection of affordable hotels to choose from. In this guide we have featured hotels that are within walking distance of the city centre.

Here is our selection of cheap hotels in Leeds.

Discovery Inn

This hotel is literally on the doorstep of Leeds train station and next door to one of my favourite real ale pubs called the Scarborough Hotel. The rooms are basic but offer good value for money. All of the rooms are en-suite and have a TV, tea/coffee facilities and hairdryers.

Within a 5 minute walk you will find Granary Wharf, home of Japanese restaurant, Wasabi Teppanyaki and the Hop, a great pub and live music venue. During the summer months you can catch a boat to other areas of the Leeds waterfront. The hotel is close to a number of shopping centres and the city square.

Click here for more information on this hotel

Jury’s Inn

The hotel offers budget accommodation, along with a modern bar and restaurant. Leeds rail station is a short walk away but what I like about this hotel is that it is located near to the riverside and brewery wharf. All of the rooms are spacious with bath/shower, satellite TV and air-conditioning.

Nearby you will find a number of restaurants and bars. In the summer sit outside at the Oracle bar with riverside views. Walk over the bridge and you find some of the city’s best restaurants including Livebait and River Plate. It is only a five minute walk to Kirkgate market, and bus station.

Click here for more information on this hotel

Cosmopolitan Hotel

The Cosmopolitan hotel went through a period of refurbishment in 2009 and this has drastically improved the hotel rooms and a new open-plan restaurant. The hotel is only a ten minute walk from the coach and bus station. All of the rooms are en-suite, plus free Wi-Fi and Sky TV.

You will be only a five minute walk from Briggate, home to the Victoria Quarter and Harvey Nichols. The hotel is a short walk to Viva, a family run Italian restaurant. The Adelphi, is a must visit pub nearby. On Call Lane you will find a number of bars and restaurants for everyone’s tastes.

Click here for more information on this hotel

Bewleys Hotel

The hotel is a ten minute walk from the city centre, but has good links to the motorways. Bewleys hotel offers free Wi-Fi and stylish rooms at good rates. All of the rooms have the usual facilities including bath/shower, seating area, and work desk. The hotel has a brassiere and relaxing bar lounge. Ideal for business travellers to Leeds.

Nearby you will find the Midnight Bell and Cross Key pubs; both offer a good choice of beers and food. The hotel has good public transport to and from the city centre and Elland Road football ground. Take a short walk from the hotel and you will find the Engine house cafe and Foundry Wine bar.

Click here for more information on this hotel

Ibis Leeds Centre

Located just outside of the city centre, the hotel will appeal to both leisure and business travellers. The hotel rooms have the usual facilities, bath/shower, satellite TV, work desk etc. Hotel ibis also boasts a stylish café, and bar with 24hr snacks available.

Over the road from the hotel is a TGI Friday’s and Maxi’s restaurant. The hotel is near Westgate casino and only a short walk from various restaurants and bars on Wellington Street. Take a ten minute walk and you will find the Light, where you will find shops, a cinema, gymnasium, and restaurants.

Click here for more information on this hotel

Hopefully this guide has given you a few options to help you plan your trip to Leeds, be it for business or leisure. Leeds is home to various museums for families and kids, tons of restaurants, pubs and bars. It’s the shopping district of the North with shops for all budgets.

Leeds Roomzzz aparthotel room

The number of hotels in Leeds has increased in recent years, with The Queens being joined by the modern hotels and aparthotels. Researching cheap hotels of Leeds, what comes as a surprise is that with a bit of research, many of the hotels that you would expect might cost an arm and a leg turn out to compare well with the obviously budget hotels.

So where can I spend a comfortable night in Leeds at a reasonable price?

Etap Leeds Hotel

The Etap Hotel offers good value for money with a double room costing from £36 for one night. This has to be a good deal. The hotel is only 5 minutes walk from the bus station and close to the Royal Armouries and the Palace a popular pub with the locals.

Click here to find out more about this hotel

Roomzzz Leeds Central

Next up is Roomzzz Leeds Central where you get a contemporary and stylish small suite from £50 per night. There is a bedroom, sitting area, fully equipped kitchen and bathroom, plus free broadband. There is a pizza restaurant and a bar at street level. The aparthotel is only a short walk away from the city centre.

Click here to find out more about this hotel

Holiday Inn Express

I’m not quite sure what inspired Holiday Inn Express to refer to this hotel as being Leeds City Centre, as it is well out of the centre of Leeds and a good 25 minute walk from the railway station. The hotel is comfortable and simple, and there is a complimentary buffet breakfast. The cost of a double room ranges from £69.

Click here to find out more about this hotel

Roomzzz City Centre

Roomzzz City Centre is right in the heart of Leeds and brand new. Each apartment has an Apple Mac and widescreen LCD TV. You can buy ready meals, pastries, fruit, hot drinks and toiletries downstairs near Reception, and there is a free Grab and Go breakfast. You get free wi-fi, local and national phone calls.

Click here to find out more about this hotel

Leeds Marriott Hotel

This highly acclaimed four star hotel is in the heart of the city centre, and just a short walk to the railway station. You can get weekend rates from £65 per night for a double. The hotel is just a short walk to Briggate, the home of Harvey Nichols and the popular Victorian Quarter. Just around the corner is the Georgetown restaurant which specialises in Malaysian food.

Click here to find out more about this hotel

The Queens

Right on City Square next to the railway station is The Queens Hotel, and you can get a double room here for as little as £55 per night for a double. You could not ask for a better location and handy if you have a train to catch in the morning. They are a number of restaurants nearby, including the Leeds Bar & Grill, which is located in the old Post Office building.

Click here to find out more about this hotel

Radisson Blu Hotel

This elegant hotel is located in The Light, and about as central as you can get. The Light is a popular place for shopping and entertainment, with the Vue cinema on your doorstep. The hotel is near Leeds City Art Gallery and Millennium Square, where you will find more restaurants and the City Museum.

Click here to find out more about this hotel

Like most things in life it comes down to online research and comparison. With a bit of a search it turns out to be just as kind to your pocket if you catch a good deal at a top hotel, as to stay in budget hotel at their standard rate.

The room of a boutique hotel in Leeds

Leeds has become a popular destination for both leisure and business travellers. Within a 2 hour train journey from London King’s Cross you will find the thriving city of Leeds. Over the last five years a number of luxury and boutique hotels have sprung up.

Here are our favourite luxury and boutique hotels in Leeds.

42 The Calls

Set overlooking the River Aire and located near some of the best restaurants the city has to offer, this boutique hotel has bags of character. All of the rooms have been designed around the original features of the corn mill, with their oak beams and exposed brick walls.

In every room you will find everything you would expect to find in a stylish boutique hotel including Egyptian cotton sheets, Plasma TV with satellite channels, a private bar and not forgetting the river facing rooms with the complimentary fishing rods to try your luck.

The trendy Clarence dock is a short walk away and home to an array of trendy designer shops, cool bars and stylish restaurants. A five minutes’ walk is the Victoria Quarter and Harvey Nichols, the Grand Theatre and opera house plus the 02 Academy, offering live music.

Click here to find out more about this hotel

Quebecs Hotel

This deluxe five star hotel is located just a stone’s throw from the rejuvenated city square, home to the black knight, a short walk from the Leeds city train station, and a good number of bars and fantastic restaurants.

Every guest room at Quebecs offers comfort, with Egyptian cotton sheets with duck down duvet. Relax in the bath while listening to your favourite music. The rooms are spacious and offer everything that you would expect from a five star hotel including luxury toiletries, bathrobe and slippers, minibar, LCD flat screen TV and air conditioning.

Click here to find out more about this hotel

Malmaison Hotel

Located just five minutes’ walk from Briggate, the home of Harvey Nichols, Victoria Arcade and the rest of what Leeds has to offer. The one-time bus depot office is the perfect hotel for business or leisure travellers.

I have to say that the hotel is not located in the nicest area but do not let that put you off because the hotel and suites are luxurious. The suites are stylish, fully-equipped with everything you might need including internet access, CD library, and your own personal bar.

You are within easy walking distance to the city’s waterfront, with its mixture of trendy bars and fantastic restaurants with river views. I can recommend the Waterfront restaurant near the Oracle bar, delicious food and with great service too.

Click here to find out more about this hotel

Park Plaza

One of the newest hotels in Leeds, the 4-star deluxe hotel is situated on City Square, and perfectly located opposite the railway station. The hotel offers 185 executive rooms as well as penthouse suites with spectacular views of the city centre.

The iconic Corn Exchange, a grade 1 listed building is a short walk from the hotel and was recently restored. Now the home of a food emporium and the award winning and family run Anthony’s restaurant. From here you will find Kirkgate Market, Europe’s largest indoor market.

Park Plaza is located near the business district and a stone’s throw away from shops, more shops, bars, traditional English pubs, restaurants. Walk under the dark arches to the Granary Wharf, with its traditional market and riverside views.

Click here to find out more about this hotel

Residence serviced apartments

The luxury serviced apartments provide an alternative to a five star hotel and are located in the former Old Post Office. You have access to the city’s thriving business district and the award winning restaurants, Loch Fyne and the Bar and Grill are on your doorstep.

Walk up Park Row and you will find some of my personal favourite restaurants, La Tasca and Browns. Have a drink in Henry’s or the Slug and Lettuce and choose between an afternoon taking in the latest works at the Leeds art gallery, or visit the Light Leeds and watch a movie or shop till you drop.

Each stylish and unique apartment has a reception and dining area, a fully equipped kitchen and an en-suite. Fully air conditioned and an environment where you can relax and feel at home no matter if you are visiting Leeds for business or pleasure.
